JorgeSanzMirandawasbornon26August1969inMadrid.Theyoungestoffivechildren,hewouldhavefollowedamilitarycareerinthefootstepsofhisfather,buthismothertookhimtoanauditionwhenhewasnineyearsoldandhewascastasthesonofJaneBirkininthefilmLaMiel(1979)directedbyPedroMasó.Fromthenon,hestartedaprolificcareerasachildactormostlyincommercialfilms.Hisself-confidenceandnaturalnessbeforethecameramadehimapopularchildactorintheSpanishscreens.Betweentheagesofnineandfifteen,heplayedintenfeatureswithinandbeyondtheSpanishfilmindustry.MostnotablyastheyoungConaninConantheBarbarian(1982),aroleplayedasanadultbyArnoldSchwarzenegger.HisroleasarascalinValentina(1982)madehimwinhisfirstawardasanactoratSanSebastianFilmFestival.Sanz'srolesinthefilmsofFernandoTruebaandVicenteArandasolidifiedhiscareer.In1986hestarredwithMaribelVerdú,inElAñodelasLuces,hisfirstroleasanadolescent.In1988,asayoungadult,hehadtheleadingroleinVicenteAranda’sSiTeDicenqueCai,forwhichheobtainedaGoyaAwardasBestactor.HefollowedthissuccesswithtwomorefilmunderVicenteAranda'sdirection,LosJinetesdelAlba(1990),amadeforT.Vminiseries,andAmantes(1991)thatwasaninternationalsuccess.Twoyearslater,hestarredinBelleépoque,directedbyFernandoTrueba.ThisfilmwontheOscarasabestforeignfilm.JorgeSanzgavetwoofhisbestperformancesinAmantesandBelleÉpoque(film)andtheseworksremainhisbest-knowninternationalfilms.Thedecadeofthe1990sconfirmedhispopularityandhemadetworolesayear.Combiningcomedies¿Porquélollamanamorcuandoquierendecirsexo?(1992)andChá-chá-chá(1997)withmoredramaticroles:MorirásenChafarinas(1994),Libertarias(1995)althoughheadmitsthatitfeelsmorecomfortablewithcomicroles.hehasalsoalternatedcinemawithtelevision.
