Enrique"Ricky"MartínMorales(bornDecember24,1971),isaPuertoRican[1]popsingerandactorwhoachievedprominence,firstasamemberofthePuertoRicanboybandMenudo,andasasoloartistsince1991.Throughouthiscareer,hehassoldmorethan60millionalbumsworldwide.[2]HeisthefounderoftheRickyMartinFoundation,anon-profitcharityorganizationaimedateliminatinghumantrafficking.Martingothisstartatagetwelvewiththeall-boypopgroupMenudo;afterfiveyearswiththegroup,hereleasedhisSpanish-languagesoloalbum,RickyMartin,in1991.HealsoactedonstageandonTVinMexico,becomingamodeststarinthecountry.In1994hestarredontheAmericanTVsoapoperaGeneralHospital,playingaPuertoRicansinger.In1999,afterseveralalbumsinSpanish,hereleasedhisfirstEnglish-languagealbum(alsotitledRickyMartin),whichincluded"Livin'laVidaLoca".Thealbumsold22millioncopiesandbroughtMartininternationalfame.[3]Hisotherstudioalbumsinclude:MeAmarás(1993),AMedioVivir(1995),Vuelve(1998),SoundLoaded(2000),AlmasdelSilencio(2003),Life(2005),andMúsica+Alma+Sexo(2011).Ontheedgeofthenewmillennium,Martin—almostbyhimself—gaveLatinomusicaninternationalface.Anacclaimedperformanceatthe1999GrammyAwardslaunchedMartinintoworldwidesuper-stardom.AsEntertainmentWeekly'sAndrewEssexreported,"hisleather-pants,electro-pelvisversionof'LaCopadelaVida'single-handedlygoosedaverydull[Grammy]telecast,earninghimastandingovation."In2010,Martinannouncedthathewasa"fortunatehomosexualman",endingyearsoffanspeculationonthetopic.Histwinsons,MatteoandValentino,werebornviaasurrogatemotherin2008.Martinalsoco-ownsaMiamirestaurant,CasaSalsa,andreceivedastarontheHollywoodWalkofFamein2007.OnNovember4,2011,RickyMartinwasgrantedSpanishcitizenshipforhisartisticmeritsandforhisgrandmotherbeingIberianborn.MartincurrentlystarsasCheintheBroadwayrevivaloftheAndrewLloydWebbermusicalEvita.
