RobertGantbeganactingintelevisioncommercialsandjoinedtheScreenActorsGuildattheageofteninhishomestateofFlorida.HeattendedundergradattheUniversityofPennsylvaniaandlawschoolatGeorgetownUniversity.Whilestudyinglaw,henevergaveuponhistruepassion,acting,andperformedinnumeroustheatricalproductions.Interestingly,itwashiscareerasanattorneythatbroughthimtoLosAngeleswhenheacceptedapositionwiththeworld'slargestlawfirm.Inatwistoffate,thefirm'sLosAngelesofficewasclosedsoonafter.Takingthatasanomen,hemadethedecisiontofocusallofhistimeonacting.Thedecisionwasagoodone.In2001GrantwascastinShowtime'shittelevisionseries,"QueerasFolk."PriortoQAF,herecurredontheWB's"Popular"andonNBC's"CarolineintheCity."GanthashadmanynotableguestspotsonsuchTVhitsas"Friends,""Veronica'sCloset,""Becker,""MelrosePlace,""Ellen,"and"Providence."Healsoappearedintheindependentfilms"TheContract,""FitsandStarts"and"MarieandBruce,"starringJulianneMooreandMatthewBroderick.GantwastherecipientofaspecialcivilrightsawardpresentedtohiminNewYork'sCityHall.OtherrecipientswereSharonGlessandGaleHarold,alsoof"QueerasFolk,"alongwith"Chicago"directorRobMarshall,ShirleyMacLaineandStevenDaldry.HistimeinHollywoodisnotlimitedtoacting,however.AlongwithproducingpartnersChadAllenandChristopherRacster,Roberthasstartedthefilmandtelevisionproductioncompany,mythgarden.Theyoptionedanexcitingslateofinitialprojects,eachwithvaryingdegreesofgay-focusedcontent,andaredevelopinganumberofotherfilmsandtelevisionshows.Whilehegivestimetoanumberofphilanthropicandpoliticalcauses,Robert's"torchissue"isthatofaginginthegaycommunity.
