DanielaRoccawasborninAcireale,oneofthepoorestdistrictsofCatania,inSicily.LikemanyotherItalianstarletsintheFiftiesandSixties,Roccabecameanactressafterwinningabeautycontest.In1953,shewaselectedMissCatania,andsoonafterwasnoticedbytalentscouts,aftertakingpartintheMissItalycontest.HerfirstfilmwasMercantidiDonne(1957).Fouryearslater,thedirectorPietroGermiwhohadseenherinIMasnadieri(1961),offeredhertheroleofRosaliainDivorzioall'Italiana(DivorceItalianStyle,1961).InDivorceItalianStyleRoccagaveabrilliantperformanceastheunwantedwife,acceptingamoustachioedupperlip,inordertoappearsufficientlyunattractive.ThiswasseenanactofgreatcourageforayoungsymbolofMediterraneanbeauty.DanielaRoccatookpartinalmostadozenotherfilms,includingL'Attico,IDonGiovannidellacostaazzurra,and...Evenneilgiornodellavendetta.In1963,Rocca'sfilmcareerendedabruptly.Shewasonly25yearsold.Afterherattemptedsuicide,shewasconsideredunreliableandreceivednooffers.Shefellintoastateofseveredepression.Hernameappearedinthepapersforthelasttimeaftershecutherwristsandwasrecoveredinamentalinstitution,inPalermo.Beforedisappearingoncemore,Roccaplayedaminorroleinafilmfortelevision,LaMacchinadelcinema,byMarcoBellocchio.RoccalivedthelastyearsofherlifeataretirementhomeinMilo,nearCatania,whereshespenthertimewritingpoems.Shepublishedfourbooks:Agentesegretoconlicenzadivivere,Avvocatooffresi,Ilcondannatoamorte,Psicoanalisi,sogni,fantasienascostinellamente,andacollectionofpoems,Ara.
