FolkerBohnet(7August1937–6October2020)wasaGermanactor,theatredirectorandplaywright.Heplayedinthe1959filmDieBrückedirectedbyBernhardWickiwhilestillastudentinBerlin.Later,hefocusedoncomedyforthestage,asactor,directorandauthorofplays,touringinternationally.HewasaregulardirectorandactorattheOhnsorg-TheaterinHamburg.BornasFolkerBohnet-WaldraffinBerlin,hemovedwithhisfamilytoDüsseldorfwherehecompletedschoolwiththeAbitur.HestudiedlawattheUniversityofCologne,butdroppedoutafterfoursemestersinfavourofattendingtheUFAjuniorstudentstudioinBerlinwherehewastrainedbyElseBongers.Whilestillastudent,hetookpartinthreefilmsinquicksuccession,includingtheworldsuccessDieBrücke(TheBridge)directedbyBernhardWickiin1959.HeplayedHansScholten,themostlevel-headedofsevenboyswhoaretodefendabridgeattheendoftheSecondWorldWar.HisotherfilmsincludeFabrikderOffiziere(1960),SchloßHubertus(1973)andVisconti'sdramaLudwig(1973),inwhichheplayedtheactorJosefKainzwhowasadoredbyLudwigIIofBavaria.Bohnetalsoappearedinnumeroustelevisionproductionsuntilthe1990s,buthespentmostofhiscareeronthetheatrestage.HissuccesswithDieBrückewasfollowedbypermanentengagementsandguestperformancesattheatressuchasThalia-Theater,ErnstDeutschTheaterandtheHamburgerKammerspiele,allinHamburg,RenaissanceTheaterandVolksbühneinBerlin,SchauspielFrankfurt,ResidenzTheatreinMunich,TheaterinderJosefstadtinVienna,andBühnenderStadtKöln.HeplayedatfestivalssuchasBadHersfelderFestspieleandintouringproductions.Inadditiontohisworkasanactor,Bohnetregularlydirectedtheatreproductions.From1977,Bohnetauthorednumerouscomedies,whichwereperformedthroughouttheGerman-speakingworldandbeyond.HetouredwithhisInanderenUmständen(InOtherCircumstances)for13years.Bohnet'sfirstdirectionjobof17attheHamburgOhnsorg-TheaterwasLustfahrtinsParadiesin2002,hislastDinnerfürSpinner.Itwashistrademarktostageasceneafterthelastcurtainfall.Hewasregardedasamasteroftimingincomedies,andabletopresentclassicalplaysfromadifferentangle,suchasKleist'sDerzerbrochneKruginlowGermanasDatSchörengericht.Hewasstillworkingasastageactoranddirectorattheageof80,forexampleplayingMephistoatKleinesTheaterimParkinBadGodesbergin2019.BohnetwasmarriedtotheactressAnn-MonikaKoepchen,andthecouplehadason,thephysicistandwriterIljaBohnet.Bohnethasanotherson,theactorMarkusLorenz-Bohnet.In2001,heenteredintoaregisteredpartnershipwithAlexanderAlexy,dentistandpartnerinmanyofhisplays,withwhomhehadbeenassociatedsincethe1980s.Bohnetdiedduringthenightfrom5to6October2020athishomeattheageof83oflungcancer.
