GustawHoloubekwasbornonApril21,1923.HewasaPolishactor,director,memberofthePolishSejm,andasenator.HoloubekparticipatedintheSeptemberCampaignandwasaprisonerofwarduringtheNaziGermanOccupationofPoland.HisfatherwasaCzechimmigrantwhosettledinPolandaftertheFirstWorldWar,andhismotherwasPolish.Holoubekhadhisfirstroleasanactorin1947,thusbeginninghislifelongcareerintheatreandfilminPolandandabroad.Hispoliticalcareerbeganin1976,whenhewaselectedtotheSejm,thelowerhouseofthePolishParliament.Hewasre-electedin1980,butresignedin1981whenmartiallawwasdeclared.In1989,hewaselectedtotheSenate,theupperhouse.Thatsameyear,hetookapositionasaprofessorattheAcademyofTheatreinWarsaw.HoloubekwasarecipientoftheOrderofPoloniaRestituta(Knight'sCross,Commander'sCrosswithStar,GrandCross).HewasmarriedtoMagdalenaZawadzka,DanutaKwiatkowskaandMariaWachowiak.HediedonMarch6,2008inWarsaw,Mazowieckie,Poland.
