KariSylwan(born15October1940)isaSwedishactress,dancer,balletteacher,andchoreographer.Sylwanstartedasadancerin1956attheRoyalSwedishBalletandattheCullbergBallet.Atbothcompaniesshedancedleadingparts,forexamplethetitleroleinCullberg'sTheLadyfromtheSea,basedonIbsen'splay,andTheEarthinBalanchine'sTheFourElements.ShelaterplayedintheIngmarBergmanfilmsCriesandWhispersandFacetoFace.WithdancerKarinThulin,Sylwancreatedthetwo-personcompanyKariochKarin("KariandKarin"),touringinSwedenandalsoappearingontelevision.1996to2005shewasthevice-chancelloroftheUniversityCollegeofDanceinStockholm.In2005shewasawardedtheH.M.TheKing'sMedalofthe12thorderforhercontributionstodance.
