BorninBordeauxFrance,BenjaminMillepiedbeganhisdancetrainingattheageofeightwithhismother,Catherine(something)aformermoderndancer.FromagethirteentosixteenheattendedtheConservatoireNationaldeLyon,studyingclassicalballetunderMichelRahn.Inthesummerof1992,MillepiedmadehisfirstappearanceinNewYorkCity,forasummerprogramattheSchoolofAmericanBallet,theofficialschoolofNewYorkCityBallet.Thefollowingyear,hebecameafull-timestudentattheschool,havingreceivedthe“BourseLavoisier,”ascholarshipawardfromtheFrenchMinistryofCulture.Inthe1994SchoolofAmericanBalletSpringWorkshop,MillepiedoriginatedaprincipalroleinJeromeRobbins’2&3PartInventionssettomusicbyJ.SBach.Thatsameyear,hewasawardedthe“PrixdeLausanne.”InhislastyearatSAB,MillepiedreceivedtheMaeL.WienAwardforOutstandingPromiseandwasinvitedtobecomeamemberofNewYorkCityBallet.IntheSpringof2001,hewaspromotedtotherankofPrincipleDancer.In2004and2005,MillepieddirectedtheMorrissCenterDanceWorkshopinBridgehampton,NewYork.From2006to2007,hewaschoreographer-in-residenceattheBaryshnikovArtsCenterinNewYork.In2007,MillepiedreceivedtheUnitedStatesArtistsWynnFellowship.In2010,hewasmadeChevalierintheOrderofArtsandLettersbytheFrenchMinistryofCulture.In2002,MillepiedstartedpresentinghisownproductionsunderthenameDansesConcertantes,showcasinghischoreography,invitingchoreographersfromtheUSandabroad,andinvitingdancersfrominternationallyacclaimedcompaniessuchasAmericanBalletTheaterandNewYorkCityBallet.DansesConcertanteshasgivenover100performancesintheUnitedStatesandinothercountriesincludingFranceandEngland.
