RussellGirardWong(王盛德,pinyin:WángShèngdé;bornMarch1,1963)isanAmericanactorandphotographer,aswellasthebrotherofactor/modelMichaelWong.Thesixthofsevenchildren,WongwasborninTroy,NewYork;thesonofChineseAmericanrestaurateurWilliamWongandanAmericanartistofDutchandFrenchdescent,ConnieVanYserloo.[1][2]HisfamilymovedtoAlbanywhenhewasababy,wherehisfatherranarestaurant.WhenWongwassevenyearsofage,hisparentsdivorced,andhemovedwithhismothertoCalifornia,settlingnearYosemite.In1981,WonggraduatedfromMariposaCountyHighSchool,andthatfallenrolledatSantaMonicaCityCollege.Wongsupportedhimselfasaphotographerandasadancer(appearinginrockvideoswithDavidBowie,DonnaSummer,andJanetJackson,amongothers)beforescoringhisfirstscreenrolesin1985,appearinginaHongKongmusicalcalledGewushengping(akaMusicalDancer)andinascreenadaptationofJamesClavell'sbest-sellerTai-Pan.Anumberofundistinguishedtelevisionandfilmrolesfollowed,butWongbeganbreakingintobetterrolesin1989,whenhemadeamemorableguestappearanceonthedramaseries21JumpStreetandwonaleadingroleinWayneWang'sacclaimedindependentromanticcomedyEataBowlofTea.SupportingrolesinChinaCryandNewJackCityweretofollow,andWongfoundhimselfworkingwithWayneWangagainwhenhewascastinaroleinthefilmadaptationofAmyTan'sbest-sellingnovelTheJoyLuckClub.Wongfinallyscoredahigh-profilebreakthroughrolein1994,whenhewascastintheleadingroleintheshortlivedTVseriesVanishingSon,inwhichheplayedaChinesepoliticalactivistexiledinAmerica.Theshowwaspopularenoughtospawnthreesequels,andwaslaterspunoffintoasyndicatedTVseries.Peoplemagazinenamedhimoneoffifty"BeautifulPeople"in1995.AfterVanishingSonranitscourse,Wongmovedontomorebig-screenwork,includingmajorrolesinProphecyII,TheTracker,andRomeoMustDie,aswellasthemade-for-TVepicTheLostEmpire.HeismarriedtoHongKongbaseddesignerFloraZetaandhasonedaughter,EjaRobinson-Wong.RussellWongalsohasadaughterbyanAfricanAmericanWomanwhoisadancer.
