ThomasMüller(Germanpronunciation:[ˈtoːmasˈmʏlɐ];born13September1989)isaGermanprofessionalfootballerwhoplaysforandvice-captainsBayernMunichandtheGermannationalteam.Aversatileplayer,Müllerplaysasamidfielderorforward,andhasbeendeployedinavarietyofattackingroles–asanattackingmidfielder,secondstriker,centreforwardandoneitherwing.Hehasbeenpraisedforhispositioning,teamworkandstamina,work-rate,andhasshownconsistencyinbothscoringandcreatinggoals.[3]AproductofBayern'syouthsystem,hemadehisfirst-teambreakthroughinthe2009–10seasonafterLouisvanGaalwasappointedasthemaincoach;heplayedalmosteverygameastheclubwontheleagueandcupdoubleandreachedtheChampionsLeaguefinal.Müllerscored23goalsinthe2012–13seasonasBayernwonahistorictreble;theleaguetitle,cupandChampionsLeague.Müllerearnedacall-uptotheGermannationalteamin2010.Atthe2010WorldCuphescoredfivegoalsinsixappearancesasGermanyfinishedinthirdplace.HewasnamedtheBestYoungPlayerofthetournamentandwontheGoldenBootasthetournament'stopscorer,withfivegoalsandthreeassists.Atthe2014WorldCupheplayedamajorroleinhelpingtheteamwinthetrophy,scoringfivegoalsandreceivingtheSilverBallasthetournament'ssecondtopplayerandtheSilverBootasthesecondtopgoalscorer,andwasalsonamedintheWorldCupAllStarXIandintheDreamTeam.In2014,Müllerwasrankedthefifth-bestfootballerintheworldbyTheGuardian.[4]
