约翰尼·韦斯默勒

JohnnyWeissmuller(bornJohannPeterWeißmüller;June2,1904–January20,1984)wasanAmericancompetitionswimmerandactorbestknownforplayingTarzaninfilmsofthe1930sand1940sandforhavingoneofthebestcompetitiveswimmingrecordsofthe20thcentury.Weissmullerwasoneoftheworld'sfastestswimmersinthe1920s,winningfiveOlympicgoldmedalsforswimmingandonebronzemedalforwaterpolo.Hewonfifty-twoU.S.NationalChampionships,setmorethanfiftyworldrecords(spreadoverbothfreestyleandbackstroke),andwaspurportedlyundefeatedinofficialcompetitionfortheentiretyofhiscompetitivecareer.Afterretiringfromcompetitions,hebecamethesixthactortoportrayEdgarRiceBurroughs'sapeman,Tarzan,aroleheplayedintwelvemotionpictures.DozensofotheractorshavealsoplayedTarzan,butWeissmullerisbyfarthebestknown.Hischaracter'sdistinctiveTarzanyellisstilloftenusedinfilms.
