AubreyWoodswasbornon9April1928,inLondon,andeducatedatTheLatymerSchoolinEdmonton,NorthLondon.HisfirstfilmrolewasasSmikeinNicholasNickleby(1947).OnstageheplayedtheroleofFagininLionelBart'sproductionofOliver!attheNewTheatre,StMartin'sLaneinthe1960salongsideNicoletteRoegandRobertBridges.HeplayedAlfredJingleintheTVmusicalPickwickfortheBBCin1969.Woods'bestrememberedmovietodateisBilltheCandyStoreOwnerinWillyWonka&theChocolateFactory(1971),singing"TheCandyMan"nearthebeginningofthefilm,thesinglewaslaterahitforentertainerSammyDavisJr.Duringtheearly1970shecollaboratedonthemusical,TrelawnywithfriendJulianSlade.[2]HistelevisioncreditsincludeZ-Cars,UpPompeii!,DoctorWho(intheserialDayoftheDalekswhereheplayedaControllerinanalternate22ndCentury),Blake's7,AufWiedersehen,PetandEverDecreasingCircles.HealsoappearedasJacobandPotipharinthe1991productionofJosephandtheAmazingTechnicolorDreamcoatattheLondonPalladium,thesoundtrackofwhichtoppedtheBritishalbumschartinAugust1991.RadiocreditsincludetheoriginalradioseriesofTheHitchhiker'sGuidetotheGalaxy,appearinginFittheSixth.HedramatisedE.F.Benson's1932comicnovel"SecretLives"inthreepartsforBBCradio,andwasalsothenarrator.
