EllieKendrick(born6June1990)isaBritishactressbestknownforplayingAnneFrankintheBBC's2009miniseriesTheDiaryofAnneFrank.Kendricksaidshewas"absolutelyterrified"atthethoughtofplayingthe15year-oldAnneFrank.ShesaidthatherapproachtoplayingFrankwasto"peelbackthelayersofidolisationandtothinkofthecharactersjustasnormalpeople."However,herperformanceasadifficultteenager,obsessedwithboysbutsensitivetothetraumafeltbyherfamilywhileinhidinginTheAnnexe,waspraisedfor"bringingfreshrealismtoaniconicrole."Kendrickwas17whenshefilmedtherole.ShehasalsoplayedrolesinWakingtheDead(2004),Doctors(2004),In2Minds(2004),PrimeSuspect:TheFinalAct(2006),Lewis(2007)andthefilmAnEducation,scriptedbyNickHornbyandwhichpremieredatthe2009SundanceFilmFestival.In2009,shemadeherstagedebutasJulietinaShakespeare'sGlobeproductionofRomeoandJuliet.InDecember2010,sheplayedmaidIvyMorrisinBBCOne'srevivalofUpstairs,Downstairs.KendrickattendedBenendenSchoolinKentandisaformermemberoftheNationalYouthTheatre.InOctober2009,shetookupaplacetostudyEnglishattheUniversityofCambridge.
