LouisBlackreceivedaMFAfromtheUniversityofTexasinAustinwithaconcentrationinFilmin1980.Thenextyearheco-foundedTheAustinChronicle,whichheedits(www.austinchronicle.com)andwherehehaspublishedclosetoonethousandpieces.In1987,hehelpedlaunchSouthbySouthwestMusic,InteractiveandFilmFestivalsandConferences(www.sxsw.com)whereheisSeniorDirector.AnoriginalboardmemberoftheAustinFilmSociety(foundedbythecurrentartisticdirector:RichardLinklater),hewasalsotheboard’sfirstPresident.HehelpedinitiatetheAustinFilmSocietyGrantprogramandnegotiatewiththeCitytocreateAustinStudios.BlackproducedseveraldocumentarieswhichincludeMargaretBrown’sBeHereToLoveMe:AFilmAboutTownesVanZandtandthePeabodyaward-winningTheOrderofMyths,whichpremieredatSundancein2008.BlackwastheExecutiveProduceronthefirsteverDVDreleaseofTobeHooper’sfirstfilmEggshellsandEaglePennell’s1978indieclassicTheWholeShootin’Match,thefilmthatRobertRedfordalwayscitesasinspiringhimtostarttheSundanceInstitute.BlackiscurrentlyproducingseveralnarrativeanddocumentaryfilmsfromTexas.
