NiallCampbellFerguson(/ˈniːl/;born18April1964)isaBritishhistorianandpoliticalcommentator.HeiscurrentlyaseniorresearchfellowatJesusCollege,Oxford,aseniorfellowattheHooverInstitution,StanfordUniversityandvisitingprofessorattheNewCollegeoftheHumanities.Previously,hewasalsotheLaurenceTischProfessorofHistoryatHarvardUniversity.Fergusonwritesandspeaksaboutinternationalhistory,economicandfinancialhistory,andBritishandAmericanimperialism.Heisknownforhisprovocative,contrarianviews.Ferguson'sbooksincludeEmpire:HowBritainMadetheModernWorld,TheAscentofMoney:AFinancialHistoryoftheWorldandCivilization:TheWestandtheRest,allofwhichhehaspresentedasChannel4televisionseries.In2004,hewasnamedasoneofthe100mostinfluentialpeopleintheworldbyTimemagazine.Inpreviousyears,hehasbeenacontributingeditorforBloombergTelevisionandacolumnistforNewsweek.FergusonwasanadvisortoJohnMcCain'sU.S.presidentialcampaignin2008,supportedMittRomneyin2012andhasbeenavocalcriticofBarackObama.FergusonreceivedtheLudwigErhardPrizeforEconomicJournalismin2013.
