Afterthewar,JürgenFrohriepinvolvedinamateurtheatermovementoftheFDJ.Althoughhecompletedanyprofessionaltrainingasanactor,hewashiredin1951attheBerlintheateroffriendship.Later,additionalappearancesatvarioustheatersintheGDR.Latefifties,entrustedhimwithKonradWolf,theleadroleinhisanti-warmoviestar(1959).ThefilmismeantfortheprofessionalFrohriepbreakthrough.AsapermanentmemberoftheDEFAensembleshewasoftenonthetypeofrolessoldiertransferred.InWolfAmongWolves(1965,basedonanovelbyHansFallada)playedFrohriepanofficeroftheBlackReichswehr.In1966,heembodiedinavictorywithoutfightingtheracingdriverManfredvonBrauchitsch.Fromthelatesixties,theroleofferswerescarce.InasmallsupportingroleplayedFrohriep1973legendaryfilmTheLegendofPaulandPaula.From1973FrohriepworkedprimarilyforthetelevisionoftheGDR.Since1972heidentifiedasapolicelieutenantinthedetectiveseriesHuebnerPolice110thInitiallyfocusedontheroleplayedbyeventheshadowofPeterBorgeltCaptainFox.ButLieutenantHuebnerquicklydevelopeditsownprofileandinfluencedsignificantlythenumber1991totheendofthepreliminary.Atotalof64casessolvedHuebner1972-1991.MoreoverFrohriepworkedextensivelyasavoiceactorandlenthisvoiceamongotherthings,CharltonHeston(AntonyandCleopatra)andRaimundHarmstorf(intheDEFAsynchronizationofTheSeaWolf,wasintheWestGermanversionHarmstorfsynchronizedbyKurtE.Ludwig).AftertheendoftheGDRwasFrohriepnomoreroles.Theactorwentthroughacrisisandsufferingfromalcoholproblemsanddepression.Duringthistime,hismarriagebrokeupwithKatiSzékely.AftertheARDin1993tocontinuethe110PolizeirufsdecidedFrohriepreturnedincasenolove,nolife(1994)asChiefCommissionerHübnerwasthelasttimeonthescreen.Shortlyaftertheshooting,hediedinBerlin.
