MichaelAnthonyRichards(bornJuly24,1949)isanAmericanactor,writer,televisionproducerandretiredcomedian,widelyknownforhisportrayalofCosmoKrameronthetelevisionsitcomSeinfeld,forwhichhereceivedthePrimetimeEmmyAwardforOutstandingSupportingActorinaComedySeriesthreetimes.Richardsbeganhiscareerasastand-upcomedian,firstenteringthenationalspotlightwhenhewasfeaturedonBillyCrystal'sfirstcableTVspecial.HewentontobecomeaseriesregularonABC'sFridays.PriortoSeinfeld,hemadenumerousguestappearancesonavarietyoftelevisionshows.HisfilmcreditsincludeSoIMarriedanAxeMurderer,Airheads,YoungDoctorsinLove,ProblemChild,Coneheads,UHF,andTrialandError,oneofhisfewstarringroles.DuringtherunofSeinfeld,hemadeaguestappearanceinMadAboutYou.AfterSeinfeld,Richardsstarredinhisownsitcom,TheMichaelRichardsShow,whichlastedlessthanonefullseason.WhenSeinfeldended,Richardsreturnedtostand-upcomedy.HeincitedmediafurorwhileperformingattheLaughFactorycomedyclubinlate2006aftercellphonevideowaspublishedofhimlaunchingintoanexpletivelacedracialtiradeprimarilydirectedatnoisefromaudiencemembers.Subsequenttosignificantmediacoverageoftheeventheannouncedhisretirementfromstand-upearlyin2007.HeappearedashimselfintheseventhseasonofCurbYourEnthusiasmin2009,actingalongsidehisfellowcastmembersforthefirsttimesinceSeinfeld'sfinale,aswellaslampooninghisincidentattheLaughFactory.In2013,RichardsplayedtheroleofFrankinthesitcomKirstie,co-starringKirstieAlleyandRheaPerlman.
