MirlanAbdykalykov(b.1982)studiedjournalismatKyrgyzNationalUniversity(1999-2004)buthehasbeenactiveinthefilmindustrysincechildhood.In1993helandedhisfirstleadroleinSwing(Altybakan,1993),directedbyAktanAbdykalykov,todayknownbythepseudonymAktanArymKubat.Theircooperationcontinuedonfurtherprojects:TheAdoptedSon(Beshkempir,1998–screenedintheEastoftheWestsectionatKVIFF1999)premieredatSundanceandTheChimp(Maimil,2001)competedintheUnCertainRegardsectionatCannes.Since2004hehasassistantdirectedforBegymfilmstudio,workinginthesamepositiononAbdykalykov’sTheLightThief(Svet-Ake,2010),whichalsoscreenedatCannes.In2008hefoundedSelkinchekproductions,whichturnsoutnotonlycommercialsandsocialnetworkvideos,butalsoshortsanddocumentaries.
