IanRobertsonGray(1938–2007)wasaBritishcomicswriterandeditor.Bornon31March1938inArbroath,Angus,Scotland,thesonofanewspaperreporterforD.C.Thomson&Co.,hejoinedthefirmhimselfattheageof17.ManagingdirectorR.D.Lowassignedhimtocomics,workingundereditorGeorgeMoonie,whereheimmediatelybeganwritingscripts[1]forthreenewcartoonists,KenReid(RogertheDodger),LeoBaxendale(LittlePlum,MinnietheMinx,TheBashStreetKids),andDaveyLaw(DennistheMenace);in1968heco-createdDennis'sdogGnasherwithLaw.[2]In1977–79heeditedPlug,aweeklycomicstarringtheeponymousBashStreetKidscharacter.[1]From1982[2]heeditedTheBeanoComicLibraryandTheDandyComicLibrary.[3]Hebecamechiefsub-editorofTheDandyin1989,wherehewrotescriptsforDesperateDan,drawnbyKenH.Harrison.[2]Heretiredearlyin1992.[1]Outsideofcomics,heplayedguitarandwrotesongs.HeperformedinskifflegroupsDerSkorpionsandtheFolkandBluesSextetinthe1950s,wasinvolvedintheArbroathfolkmusicsceneinthe1960s,andwaswell-knownlocallyforperforminghiscomicsongs.Healsoracedpigeonsandtrialledsheepdogs.[2]HediedofaheartattackinForfar,Angus,on6September2007.[1]
